Prayer to save my son

by Cynthia (Asheville, NC)

Save my son, Oh Lord!

Please do not turn your back on him and forget him. He was once yours and he still belongs to you. He has just forgotten.

Please don’t forget him…

Please be that voice in his head that calls him back to safety.

Please watch over him and keep him safe when he is not in control of his body and his mind.

Oh, Father, you gave him to me to love and protect, but he is no
longer under my roof of protection. He is out in the world, on his own, and I can’t protect him! Only you can hide him under your wings so that those who would do him harm would not find him defenseless…

Lord, he is looking to the world for approval, and the world approves of evil and hates the truth, please help him see how dangerous some of his “friends” are to him…

Please open his eyes, remove the scales that prevent him from seeing the truth of the danger that he is tempting…he doesn’t even realize how close he has come to irreversible harm…

My son, Lord, once loved you and identified himself as your child. I know that he still loves you, but he is hiding his face in shame right now…fearing your wrath and numbing his pain in alcohol. Please forgive him when he, trembling, comes to you and silently confesses his sin. Please reach out with your strong arms and take him into a hug that a mere earthly mother could never duplicate.

Please break his strong will, Lord, in the way only You can, protecting him and preserving him for your use someday…when he is well enough to help others…

My son is an alcoholic, college student, fraternity brother, a good boy who has lost his way and is no longer walking the narrow path that You have chosen for him…he is far from home, and all alone…only YOU can save him and guide him back to Your path for him…help him, Lord, save him, Lord, love him, Lord, as only You can…

I pray this in the strong name of Jesus, who loves and saves the lost…

    Thanksgiving 2014

I literally stumbled onto this prayer today, as I thought I was typing in my password for my AOL account. The first few words caught the idea and a search produced a page of many sites dealing with “Saving my son”, I was lead to this prayer by God Himself, as today my son and I will meet for the first time in over 3 months. We became estranged in August, his choice. I’ve prayed daily for restoration and healing of our relationship and for him to find his way back to God. When he told my ex-husband that he and his girlfriend would accept our invitation to Thanksgiving dinner, I was overwhelmed with joy. They haven’t arrived yet, but I am trusting God for a miracle to restore the loving relationship that he and I shared not so long ago. I am moved beyond words with the events of today, mainly, my son coming over and finding this prayer. Thank you, Lord for leading me this day and thank you to whomever penned this prayer. You have given a mother a prayer I can pray daily that hits every emotion and need spot on. Wishing a Blessed Thanksgiving to everyone!

Thank you. Your prayer helped me.

While I was searching for a prayer for my son I found yours.
My son’s attack is in the form of depression. He was also raised in the word, and lovedThe Lord from an early age. The attacks are so constant and it has become difficult for him to believe anymore.
Thank you so much for posting your prayer. It is encouraging to know that other believing parents are openly praying for their children. This is not a time for denial or pride.
    May God Bless you!

    Reposted your prayer

I too, sit here with tear filled eyes, in continual prayer for my 23 year old son. Though I see my son on a regular basis, he is no longer here, for the alcohol and drugs have consumed him.
I hope you don’t mind, but I posted your prayer on my son’s facebook page. I felt led to share your prayer…you see, last night I prayed to God to lay on my heart a way to reach my son. In some divine manner, my son accidently left his facebook page up on my computer, and I felt the need to reach out to him there. As I began to write, I could not find the words. I put in a google seach for a prayer and yours was the first I found. It said everything I was unable to say. And I knew then, God’s hand was at work with everything falling into place as it did. I did add a few of my own words at the bottom of your prayer, praying for his “friends”, that they may seek God as well. If this is not acceptable, please let me know, and I will remove it. Thank you for your prayer, and may God give you, and all parents going through this, comfort in His loving arms.

    Thank you for the prayer

Thank you for posting this prayer. I’ve just read it out loud. The situation with my 29 year old son is so painful. Just yesterday I surrendered my life back to the Lord. Maybe it needed to be so painful with my son(s), actually two of them, that I would come back to my faith as a Christian.

    God bless you in 2017.
