Come And Celebrate – Thursday, June 6th, 2019

This afternoon I attended two graduation parties. The food was plentiful, the pictures numerous and the memories abundant. It was fun, not only to reminisce, but also to hear the graduates describe their plans. These celebrations are a time to honor the accomplishments of the graduate and show support for their future endeavors.

God encourages His people to celebrate. He calls us to gather in worship to honor Him for His accomplishments in Je- sus Christ. We come together as the family of God to remember all that His Son has done for us on the cross. We recall that through His shed blood we are saved from sin and death. Worship is about rejoicing that Christ our Savior has triumphed over death and has given us a future in the eternal kingdom of God.

In worship we have the privilege of joining Christ at the communion table through the power of the Holy Spirit. At the table we look back at the last night Jesus was on earth with His disciples. We remember that He shared the Passover meal with them. And when the meal was over “He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me’” (Luke 22:19).

At the table we also look forward to the day when the world is reconciled to God, and we “will be with Him in paradise” (Luke 23:43).

Worship is the celebration of God in Christ.
