Lord, thank you for my wife.
I know that he who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains Your favor. Though I love her deeply, I often fail to demonstrate it. And so I come before the throne of grace, knowing that You love Your precious daughter more than I ever could. All I can do is ask for Your help. Help me to love her like Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her. Help me to unrelentlessly pursue her like Hosea did Gomer, and unconditionally care for her as you did Israel. Help me to provide for the needs of my wife, as Boaz did Ruth.
Help me to treat my marriage as a vine, patiently nurturing and tending to it, that it my grow and be fruitful. Help my fountain to be blessed and to rejoice in the wife of my youth. Help me to enjoy life with the wife whom I love. Help me to look at my marriage as a covenant instead of a contract. Help me to be concerned with how to please her. Help me to be a servant leader and a gracious head. Help me to love my wife as my own body. Help me to walk in purity and faithfulness to my wife, being a ‘one woman’ man.
Help me to live with her in an understanding way, honoring her as the weaker vessel. And help me to love You more than I love her, because I know that only when I love You with all of my heart, mind, soul, and strength can I then love her as myself.
Though I don’t deserve her, I thank you for her friendship. Help me to lay my life down for her daily and spend the rest of my days pouring my heart and soul into our marriage, that it may be a reflection of the Gospel of Your grace and mercy.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
