For my teenage son who is a secret depressive

by Prayers Admin ()

My son is a secret depressive. His school give him no pastoral care so he is getting worse. He is turning to things he should not and is addicted to them. He knows they don’t work but he says he is hoping they will because if they don’t he will have nothing to lift him up, which terrifies him.

I have prayed for him for 16 years and he and I spent the first ten years of his life reading the Bible; so he knows the lord. I chose reading the bible to him over nursery rhymes.

Last night was a huge breakthrough. He had succumbed to his addiction; but later that evening when I saw him, he clung to me and cried and cried for ten minutes. He was in despair and had no hope. I told him that this was the very place that the lord had wanted him to be in; in the bottom of the pit. The lord was the ladder in the pit and was the way out. However my son had chose Jesus and to climb this ladder, rather than chose his addiction which would keep him in the pit. The addiction is the devil wanting to keep him there, but the lord was the only way out to freedom. Who was he going to chose? My son said he chooses Jesus!

Climbing the ladder would not be easy and he would fall down occasionally; however as long as he keeps on climbing, with the help of the lord, then he will be free from the pit.

I reminded him that Joseph was thrown down the well and that later he was accused of attacking his masters wife. Yet he became the right hand man to the ruler of Egypt! I told him that the enemy only attacks those who will be great for the lord. I told him that he will be a great man and will do great things in his life and that is why the enemy is doing everything to stop this from happening. However he belongs to the lord and the lord will not allow these things to happen.

My request is for the lord to bless this good work that he has started. I pray that my son today starts to climb on this ladder to freedom and that the lord speaks to him in a clear way and breaks the bondage of this addiction.
